ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Mike Hatch the painter has always been interested in art. Even when he was a young child he was drawing people and buildings around him from T.V. and films.

Officially started painting in 1990, working on landscape scenes around Shropshire, and other views around the U.K.

After getting 2 G.C.S.E’s in Art & Graphics at school, studied, went onto Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology, achieving a 1st. Diploma both in Art & Commercial art, then achieved 3 City & Guilds in Sign-writing. Also in those formidable years, a 1st. Diploma in Commercial advertising art with I.C.S.

Mike's ever-continuous development in artistic style and creative growth ultimately means he is flexible to adapt to many various & interesting subjects, where-by commissions asked of him so far amount to 145 and counting!

In 2001-3, through an agent, (1 of 3), Mike sold 5 original paintings to a large prestigious hotel in Italy, plus various prints to a restaurant in Spain.

Additionally, Mike sold up to 20 paintings of the Titanic to many various galleries in and around Birmingham and London, not to mention selling many original works in various exhibitions around Shropshire.

To add, he has painted the `great and the good`-local businessmen & actors, sold an original oil painting to & of the actor Edward Woodward in 2005.

Also painted Kate Winslet, Susan Hampshire and Michael Cain.

His varied artistic past means now that he can now fully expand artistically, furthering onto more complex arrangements and really test his abilities by venturing onto large scale religious works, based on Rembrandt and Titian's sketches & etchings, the largest so far being 12 foot long, depicting the ceremony of Jesus in the temple, which was exhibited, (with all the 12 others) in Shrewsbury Abbey in 2007-where many prints were sold.

The artist also took part in Channel 4`s Watercolour Challenge  in 1998 painting Ludlow Castle, which immensely boosted not only his confidence, but also his commercial viability as a successful artist.

To conclude: the artist continues to exhibit up and down the country and is running his own Art School based in Wellington. For further details email:

Home.
Then a Dutch man by the name of Bernard Van Der Woning discovered it by chance. After already starting an art group at various locations, he decided to build it as an art studio along with his friend, Reg Addams, taking many years to complete with a lot of hard work. Slowly, but gradually they established a thriving, successful art group, becoming a well-known society. At it's peak, membership reached 86, having two annual exhibitions in the Telford town centre,
for many years.

There was a change in committee members - a new chairman. Unfortunate decisions meant that the Art Society had to vacate the building.

Mike Hatch joined the art society in 1991, and even then had his own ideas on how different he would run it if he could so. When the opportunity came, he grabbed it with both hands, though he wants to, (and is) having a more flexible approach to the schematics of the art group, effectively having two main creative sections to it - a non-student section and a set structured art course
or paying students.
The studio was in a very sorry state when the old art group left in 2007, so Mike rescued it from total abandonment, starting first with ripping up the carpet, completely repairing the roof, floor and patching up other areas. It took almost 30 tubes of sealant and filler, cleaning all of the 120 windows (inside & out), securing the fire door, building 5 easels, 6 shelves, rigging up more effective lighting (along with a friend), making safe all the electrics, putting up security cameras, also making more room for artists to work and express themselves.
All advertising had to be re-done, plus development of a brand new and exciting website,
(with thanks to a friend) .
It all began way back in 1973, when it used to be just a run down dilapidated bike hut....
